Pacman Pawns Cotto for Historic Win!

Capiz Gym is fully packed with thousands of eager fans waiting to celebrate their hero's historic bout. Dubbed Firepower, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, brought out all their arsenal and it was war, or for Cotto it seems like it. The defending champ got most damage from the bomb-like punches of the Philippine's best.

The result was no surprise as the Pacman now owns a world-record seven boxing titles. Well done and congratulations to my main man!

29 + Life

I know a friend who has undergone metamorphosis in a matter of months - from a darker, hopeless, and pointless living to a life filled with meaning, joy, and enthusiasm.

I could not recognize him a year ago as on this same date he struggled to find meaning of his existence. Giving himself a gift of knowledge, he didn't how this decision would ripple through and finally earned him a place more than he'd ever imagined (or at least when he reached 29).

This guy is passionate even then but has lost his touch, because, he really lost his touch. The year went by so fast and he will attest that in that year he was the worst of himself. Still, his talents and perhaps his reputation kept him afloat, saving him from insanity and from himself.

Nevertheless, he kept a straight face all throughout, never revealing the angst and the depression which plague him night in and night out. Fast forward to the month of love, a fitting event began to transpire that will change the course of his life and who knows, maybe history. Love was and is key, as it has always been throughout generations.

Now, this friend of mine is back in his game. Perhaps not fully functional but he is not the right track. I can see him not only recuperating but morphing - becoming mature and eventually able to fly and be free. I wish him all the best for he is really an inspiration to me. Fulfill your destiny my friend!

What fight? Pacquiao owned Hatton!

I waited a long time for this much-hyped, nevertheless historic sports spectacle and I was not disappointed. Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao pawned Ricky "Hitman" Hatton big time! Savor this final knockdown courtesy of the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.

No Choice!

There comes a time in a man's life where he has to take responsibility because he has to, and not because he wants to. Situations seem to connive to get the best out you, knowing you have the skills and abilities, and the potential to be one of history's best. As a man you can either run away or own up to it, knowing it will be harder than ever but the rewards might be worth it. Our history, movies, books and comics are full of these stories - stories that show that indeed with "greater power comes greater responsibilities" and that "some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them." I hope we can learn from these and pass them to the next generation so they will surpass us.

Remember, Remember... the 7th of April

I always consider seven (7) special but it isn't the number itself but the events surrounding it. I love the 7th day of April for it is a day of new beginnings. The future will be much brighter because of what happened today. This song sums it all up.

Talk about beating the buzzer...

I watched this NBA game today between the Denver Nuggets and the Utah Jazz. I wasn't routing for anyone since I just wanted to see an entertaining game, and I got one! This particular buzzer-beating play by Anthony Carter of Nuggets at the end of the half is certainly the play of the day.

I recorded the play, reviewed it to see if the ball was really out of his hands before the buzzer sounded (or the red lights went off in the backboard), and they were right to count it. Nice work!

Do You Need Pre-need?

Pre-need means something that you would pay for in advance for future use, or a future investment. The term pre-need is commonly used in the insurance businesses which includes memorial plan, pension plan, education plan, etc.

According to the latest news the pre-need industry faces collapse which may be due to the effects of western recession or mismanagement on the part of trustee banks who invest the planholders' payments. Whatever it may be, the future seems bleak for this industry.

Human as we are, we have a very hard time dealing with uncertainties. There are always risks and we have the choice to manage these ourselves or transfer these to others in exchange for a premium.

I personally am not a big fan of insurances or plans because they somehow give you a false sense of security. Added to this is the accumulating data about insurance companies who were not able to insure themselves financially. They seem to be more into insuring that they get the profits while providing a lot of coverage restrictions and hiding under bureaucracy when questioned by their customers.

How about you, what do you think?

Pres. Obama: Yes He Did!

Finally, after a very long U.S. presidential campaign which I only started following last January 2008, Pres. Barack H. Obama gained the keys to the White House. I was up all night surfing different channels covering the oath-taking and inaugural parade, and got into the hype which is somehow symbolic of our need for change and hoping for a brighter future despite the grim reality the world is now facing.

Enjoy these clips I compiled from this moment in history.
